Roy & Margaret Lytle have served with World Team in the country of Suriname, South America for over 29 years, 1970 - 1988, & 1996 - present.
Roy
was born & raised in Tampa, Florida. After graduation from
high school, he enlisted in the Navy. Roy accepted Christ as his
personal Savior while at the Naval Training Center of the Great
Lakes in 1960. After discharge from the Navy in 1962, he returned
to Tampa, was married to Margaret, & began working for the
Coca-Cola Company.
Margaret
was born in Wayne, Ohio. Her family moved to Florida when she
was in the seventh grade. After graduation she worked for Dun
& Bradstreet. Margaret received the Lord as her Savior in
1960 with the help of her pastor & his wife.
Roy
& Margaret were challenged to serve God through missions during
a missionary conference at their church. They resigned their jobs
& began attending Trinity College in Dunedin, Florida. While
attending Trinity, Roy pastored the First Community Church of
Highland City, Florida, for three years. After graduating from
Trinity, Roy & Margaret resigned the church to go with World
Team to Suriname.
They
were assigned to the Wayana Indian village of Lawa on the S.E.
border of Suriname, doing general missionary work... preaching,
teaching, Sunday school, youth ministries, Bible study groups,
counseling, river evangelism, & expeditions to reach out to
un-reached tribes. They traveled to other established villages
across the interior where World Team had started churches to teach
& encourage the leadership of these churches.
In
1984, Roy was appointed Field Director which necessitated a move
to the city, which in turn gave a broader ministry to the divergent
cultural, ethnic groups that make up Suriname, i.e. Chinese, Bush
Negroes, Creoles, Javanese, & Hindustani.
Roy & Margaret
returned to the U.S. in 1988 to facilitate the education of their
children (Tammy, now married with two children; Susan, now married,
no children; Tim, now married with one child.). For three years,
Roy served with World Team Associates, an affiliate association
with World Team that seeks to promote the work of World Team involving
laymen from the local church. Then he pastored the First Baptist
Church of Terra Ceia, Florida for three years. In 1996, the Lytles
returned to Suriname to continue their ministry of training emerging
leaders among the tribal churches in the interior.
